Membership

Membership with PNGX provides firms with the opportunity to actively participate in Papua New Guinea’s financial markets. To become a member, applicants must meet specific criteria set by the exchange, including demonstrating financial stability, compliance with regulatory standards, and the capacity to handle trading activities effectively.

The process involves submitting a comprehensive application that is carefully reviewed by PNGX, followed by potential interviews or additional documentation requirements. Once accepted, members are required to complete onboarding procedures and training to ensure they are proficient in using PNGX’s trading systems and adhering to its rules and regulations. Membership not only grants access to trade securities on the exchange but also allows members to contribute to and benefit from the growth and development of the exchange.

PNGX also has its set of requirements that corporate entities must meet in order to be granted membership as a participating organization and given permission to trade on its trading platform. As part of PNGX’s current requirements, only corporate organizations are allowed to apply for membership and individual membership is not allowed.

Current membership consists of two brokerage firms, who actively conduct trade using PNGX’s trading systems. They are Kina Securities and JMP Securities.

Stockbrokers are financial professionals who facilitate the buying and selling of securities on behalf of clients. Acting as intermediaries between investors and stock exchanges, they provide expert advice, execute trades, and help clients manage their investment portfolios.

By law, not just anyone can call himself or herself a stockbroker. There are strict and prudent requirements set out by the Capital Markets Act that individuals and companies must meet in order to be granted permission to operate as a stockbroker.

The areas of responsibility a stockbroker deals with are wide and varied in nature. The primary function of a stockbroker is to advice clients on investments and ensuring that sales and purchases of share transactions are effected between buyers and sellers.

A Papua New Guinean stockbroker is subject to the supervision of PNGX. Shares listed on PNGX can only be bought or sold through a registered participating member organization.
